We live in the most rapidly changing period in human history, and all indications are that the pace of change will continue to accelerate faster and faster. That increasing change means increasing uncertainty, and that both risks and opportunities will be coming at us faster and faster in the future. Author Biographical Info: Mike Carpenter had an exciting childhood and a wide variety of experiences growing up in a military family. His family moved frequently and he lived all around the United States, including Hawaii before his family settled on the west coast. Although he earned a Bachelor’s degree in science, and worked as a scientist directly after college, he shortly decided to pursue a career in the investment business. He then won acceptance to a very competitive investment executive training program, which included time working on Wall Street. On completing training he began his investment career as a financial advisor working with individual investors, business owners, professionals, and retirees. After many years as a successful financial advisor, he was promoted to regional management and then national level executive management positions in the investment industry. In 2003 he established his own consulting firm, serving financial services industry firms, executives, and advisors.
Mike’s scientific education and training, and interest in history carried over into his investment career as a deep curiosity into not only what was happening in the investment markets but also why things happen, and how investors react to them. Throughout his career he’s been driven by what more he could learn to help him be of additional value to his clients. So the combination of his knowledge and experience in the investment world and his scientific curiosity led him to learn as much as possible about the critically important subjects of uncertainty, risk, and risk management. His interest in those subjects, his years of personal research into the topic, and seeing individual investors growing need to better understand and manage the risks of our increasingly less certain world led him to share what he’s learned in The “Risk-Wise” Investor.
